GO FAST TIPS
PINEWOOD RACER PRE - RACE CHECK LIST
- Car body is cut to a very thin shape. The front and rear are
rounded like an airplane wing. Fast Cars Have A Thin
Shape
- Wheelbase (distance between axles) is as long as possible
(if local rules allow). This will improve stability, tracking,
and speed. Long Wheelbase Cars Go Faster.
- Car weight is right on the maximum (usually 5 oz.) - not a
gram over or under. Heavier Cars Go Faster.
- Car weight is placed in the rear so the fore / aft balance
point is about 1 1/4" in front of the rear axles. Rear
Weighted Cars Go Faster.
- The axles have been sanded and polished until smooth. Friction
is the Enemy of Speed. Reduction of diameter is okay. Smaller
Diameter Axles Go Faster.
- The axles have been glued into the body slots with epoxy to
keep them from slipping out. Allow 3/32" to 1/8" clearance
between wheel and body.
- Wheels are sanded smooth or turned on a lathe (if local rules
allow). Lathe Turned Wheels Go Faster.
- One of the front wheels does not touch track. Three
Wheels Go Faster.
- Wheels, axles, and the side of the body have been well lubricated
with a Graphite - Moly combination. Well Lubricated
Cars Go Faster.
